CITATION OF MERIT AWARD
Internal Award

 The purpose of the West Virginia Reading Association Citation of Merit Award is to recognize an individual for outstanding contributions to the field of reading.  Nominations for this award may only be made by members of the WVRA Executive Board.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING NOMINATION:
The individual making the nomination should submit a one-paged, typed rationale for recommending this person, including a description of this candidate’s contributions to the field of reading theory and/or research, reading practice, the profession, and the West Virginia Reading Association.

1. Attach three (3) letters of support from three different people.
2. Enclose a photograph of the nominee suitable for publication.
3. Person submitting nomination should complete the information at the bottom of the form and attach it as the last page of the nomination packet.
4. The nomination should be sent to the Citations and Awards Committee Chairman.  The nomination will be presented to the Executive Council for approval.
5. Include a cover sheet with the nomination letter that includes the name of the person submitting the nomination and pertinent contact information.
 

CRITERIA FOR WVRA CITATION OF MERIT AWARD:
The nomination letter should include:

  • Outstanding contributions in a leadership role in the field of reading.
  • Excellent influences on students, teachers, colleagues, children and parents through instruction, presentations, writings, research.
  • Initiation and development of original ideas that have increased knowledge and understanding of the reading process and/or improved practices in reading instruction and development.
  • Superior service in several important capacities in reading, (e.g. teacher, scholar, researcher, supervisor, author, lecturer, administrator).
  • Dedication and on-going efforts in furthering the development of the field of reading.
